Maker of Pictures Some year ago, June Callwood the well known tv personality, journalist and writer, wrote this about David Campbell in an article published in the Globe and Mail : "His poems abound with symbols of freedom, birds, He has, as a creative artist in song-writing, poetry, and prose writing, in addition to his life affirming material, in those idioms, sometimes touched on historical wrongs and social ills. In making pictures that have heeded the call of his "symbols of freedom", he feels he has won the freedom to have painting as an "oasis place" in his life, and also as a way of affirming life, working around the mysteries of existence, unearthing archetypal images from deep inside of himself, drawing upon his ancient and powerful Native heritage for "essence portrayals" of his subjects, and visually representing emanations of energy and power, between the entities in his pictures, and out to the viewer. Painting is the most recent creative idiom he has engaged in, drawing from the other creative arts he previously engaged in, and their common ground of needing to be economical, and to communicate outwards to those who interface with them. David work is in a variety of collections and has been shown in exhibitions. For further information please send an email to : info@davidcampbellarts.com |
